How much is it?
Sempre quando compramos algo, é comum perguntarmos o preço das coisas. Em inglês, um dos jeitos de perguntar sobre o price (preço) é com a pergunta How much is it? (Quanto custa?) no singular e também no plural How much are they? (Quanto custam?).
Exemplo 1: – How much is it?
– It is 10 dollars.
Exemplo 2: – How much are they?
– They are 10 dollars.
| Obs: É possível trocar os pronomes it e they pelo nome do objeto. Por exemplo, se você está comprando um computador, a pergunta ficaria How much is the computer? ou se você está comprando mais de uma bolsa, a pergunta ficaria How much are the bags?. |

Os pronomes demonstrativos em inglês são usados para demonstrar a distância de algum objeto/pessoa, indicando se está perto ou longe.

Números e preços
Quando precisamos falar o preço de algo, usamos os números cardinais em inglês. No entanto, existem maneiras mais rápidas de falar os preços e são bastante usados no dia a dia. Vamos aprender? Let’s go!
Primeiro, vamos aprender as moedas em inglês.

| Obs: A palavra ‘bucks‘ é muito usada informalmente para substituir a palavra ‘dollar‘ nas frases. Por exemplo, one dollar fica one buck ou 10 dollars fica ten bucks. |
- How much is that? It’s 50.89 (It’s fifty dollars and eighty-nine cents).
- How much is this? It’s 10.66 (It’s ten dollars and sisty-six cents).
- How much is this toy? It’s 88.50 (It’s eighty-eight dollars and fifty cents).
A divisão entre os números se faz com ponto e não com vírgula como no Brasil.
Outra observação sobre preços é que algo custar mais de 100 dólares você pode dividir esse número para pronunciar, segue os exemplos:
A parte em azul é a maneira completa de falar e a em vermelho é a maneira abreviada.
- 238.00 (two hundred and thirty-eight dollars ou two thirty-eight)
- 652.00 (six hundred and fifty dollars ou six fifty-two)
- 720.99 (seven hundred twenty dollars and ninety-nine cents ou seven twenty and ninety-nine)
Para números acima de 1.000:
- 1,220.89 (one thousand two hundred and twenty dollars and eighty-nine cents ou twelve twenty eighty-nine)
- 7,405.29 (seven thousand four hundred and five dollar and twenty-nine cents ou seventy-four oh-five twenty-nine)
Lembrando que a pronúncia do zero aqui nos preços é ‘oh’.
